Ohio State alumnus named Knight-Hennessy Scholar

Abu Rogers, Knight-Hennessy 2023 Cohort

Ohio State alumnus Abu Rogers has been selected as a 2023 Knight-Hennessy Scholar. He graduated from the Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry in 2020.

Rogers joins the new cohort of 85 includes students from 29 countries who will pursue degrees in 38 graduate degree programs across all seven of Stanford’s graduate schools. 

The Freetown, Sierra Leone, native is pursuing an MD at Stanford School of Medicine and an MBA at Stanford School of Business.

While studying at Ohio State, Rogers earned the Outstanding Senior Award for his leadership and service.

Rogers aspires to improve health outcomes in low-income communities in Sierra Leone and other nations through innovative health care delivery, education, and community empowerment. He has conducted research on Ebola, malaria, and COVID-19, and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications.

He served as operations manager of Pacific Free Clinic and lead undergraduate coordinator at Columbus Free Clinic.

During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Rogers worked with Partners in Health-Sierra Leone and Roots Community Center on equitable vaccination delivery efforts. He has taught classes in Sierra Leone and the United States, and has promoted diversity in medicine through several leadership roles.

Knight-Hennessy Scholars receive up to three years of financial support to pursue graduate studies at Stanford.
