Overview
The US-UK Fulbright Commission offers summer programs at world-class UK universities to U.S. undergraduates. Summer institutes are three to four weeks in length and provide an immersive academic, cultural, and social experience for freshmen or sophomores. The summer institutes cover round-trip airfare, tuition fees at the host institution, accommodation, and in some cases a small daily allowance for meals.
Eligibility
- Be a U.S. citizen and possess a U.S. passport
- Have had no or very little study/travel experience outside of North America
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.7
- Be at least 18 years old by the start of the program
- Be able to participate in the program in its entirety
- Have at least two years of undergraduate study remaining after the Institute finishes
- Low-income and first generation students given priority
Selection Criteria
Fulbright United Kingdom Summer Institutes selection criteria include:
- Strong academic ability
- Ambassadorial skills
- Intercultural sensitivity
- Genuine desire to learn more about the UK and to share aspects of American culture
- Extracurricular activities
- Community involvement
- Leadership potential
- Plans to further the Fulbright mission and give back to the U.S. upon returning

- 3 short-answer questions
- Write about a leadership position where you had a great amount of responsibility. This can be either from your personal, academic, or professional life. What did you learn from the experience? (max. 300 words)
- Tell us about why you have chosen this particular summer institute. What qualities and skills do you have to offer your host institution and community? How will this experience contribute to your future academic and personal goals? (max. 300 words)
- Please write a short statement that identifies the main reason(s) why you should be on a fully funded program. (max. 200 words)
- 2 long-answer questions (800 words each)
- Using one or more examples, please discuss a current affairs issue in the United States that is important to you.
- Personal Statement: Tell us about yourself. What makes you unique? Why are you interested in studying abroad, and in particular in the UK? How do you think this will be a transformative experience and what will you gain from participating in a Summer Institute?
- 2 references (one academic reference from a recent professor/teacher, other reference can be academic or from a coach, group leader, employer)

You are encouraged to contact the Undergraduate Fellowship Office at fellowships@osu.edu for support on your application. However, because this is a direct-apply award, you are not required to work with our office.
