Student Resources

The Undergraduate Fellowship Office assists all Ohio State students seeking nationally competitive awards. Student needs vary depending on where they are in the process. Explore the resources listed on this page to identify how UFO staff can support you. Then, use the buttons at the bottom of the page to get started on your fellowship journey.

Undergraduate Fellowship Office Programming

Work with UFO staff throughout the application process. We offer the following programming to support you:

Information sessions, which introduce specific fellowships and include content such as: eligibility requirements, focus of the award, selection criteria, and application components. Often information sessions also include opportunities to reflect on ways you exemplify the selection criteria and how the fellowship will support your long-term goals.

Writing workshops, which focus on application components. Our most common workshops address personal statements, though we occasionally host workshops dedicated to specific awards and their application essays.

Writing circles, which are opportunities to work on application materials independently in the company of other students. UFO staff offer application writing tips at the start of the session, and then applicants work independently and quietly. As questions arise, students can consult with UFO staff to address them. Refreshments are provided.

One-on-one advising, which includes focused dialogue between a UFO staff member and a student. These conversations often happen early in the application process, while students are clarifying whether a particular award is right for them. They also happen once a student has a nearly complete draft of their application materials, so UFO staff can offer feedback for continued revision.

Special events, which include opportunities to mingle with other fellowship applicants and to celebrate at various points in the application process. Typically, we hold special events at the end of each semester to honor everyone who worked with UFO during that term. On the dates of major deadlines, we also hold “I hit submit” celebrations, which are opportunities to pause after the intense application process.
