Yenching Scholars

Overview

Yenching Scholars provides a funded two-year master’s degree in interdisciplinary Chinese Studies at Peking University in Beijing, China for seniors and recent graduates. The program enrolls 120 new students each year with a cohort made up of 20% Chinese Mainland students and 80% international students who participate in a humanities and social sciences curriculum that considers China’s past, present, and future. Students choose from one of six areas of focus: Political & International Relations, Law & Society, Economics & Management, History & Archaeology, Literature & Culture, and Philosophy & Religion. The primary language of instruction is English with an option to take a few elective courses taught in Mandarin.

Eligibility

  • Bachelor’s degree by time of enrollment
  • English Proficiency (no exam required for those who completed degrees in the U.S.)
  • Cannot be enrolled in another degree program while enrolled at Peking University
  • No age limit, but no one over 28 has been admitted to the program (average age is 23)
  • Must have a strong interest in interdisciplinary study of China but do not need to have degrees in Chinese Studies, East Asian Studies, or Chinese languages. Students from any discipline can apply.

You are encouraged to contact the Undergraduate Fellowship Office at fellowships@osu.edu for support on your application. However, because this is a direct-apply award, you are not required to work with our office.
