Undergraduates from institutions other than MIT have the unique opportunity to experience first-hand the academic, social, and cultural environment at MIT while conducting supervised research in a top research institution, in a supportive learning environment with plenty of interaction with graduate students and faculty. Over 85% of past participants have enrolled in highly ranked graduate programs within three years of completing MSRP BIO. A number have been awarded Goldwater Scholarships, pre-doctoral NSF fellowships (GRFP), Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Gilliam Fellowships for Advanced Study, or Fullbright Fellowships.
The MIT Biology PhD program is an umbrella program that offers training in many areas of Biology from biochemistry and genetic, to computational biology and Neurobiology. It is consistently ranked among the top three PhD programs in the country. Graduate students are fully funded for the length of their studies. A third of our PhD graduates pursue academic careers, a third pursue career in biotech and Pharma and a third go into consulting, science writing, patent law, or business.
